And you do not need a horse race to enjoy this wonderful refreshing drink.

First Stop: Niagara Falls

As we entered New York from the Pennsylvania border, we had our hearts set on an afternoon visit to Niagara Falls. Discovered by European settlers Louis Hennepin in 1678, the world has been here a path to the. And the cases always delivers! After drying out our thrilling Maid of the Mist experience, it was time for the short 20 minutesTrip to the Lake Erie port city of Buffalo. From reading the brochures we had previously collected, we were by the promise of historic architecture, trendy entertainment and fascinating shopping areas, and local specialties.

We checked into our hotel in the city, the comfortable Best Western Inn on the Avenue, settle in for our 3 nights at the Buffalo Niagara region. With a special local food specialty on our mind, we headed for a Buffalo institution, the world-famous AnchorBar

The Anchor Bar is, of course, as the origin of buffalo wings known. Since 1964, this neighborhood gem has been rotating several styles of chicken wings, a delicious than the other. Especially recommended are the 2007 Riesling, an excellent example of the style and Crofton Blush, a semi sweet offering, ideal for summer sipping.

Honeymoon Trail Winery: try for the perfect name for a winery in the Niagara Falls area, Honeymoon Trail offers a beautiful part of its wines. Try the spicy, Cabernet Franc and the whiteTip, a blend of Riesling and Cayuga White. We have received at home two bottles of Just Peachy, a clear and fruity wine with New York was peaches.

Warm Lake Estate: Pinot Noir is the name of the game at Warm Lake Estate. Wine Spectator consistently praised the Pinot Noir, rating it the best of its kind in New York. Their extensive vineyards, hosting exclusively Pinot Noir grapes, which are shown from the outside deck.

Arrowhead Spring Vineyards: Charming family-run winery hasa wide range of grapes in his vineyards, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec and Chardonnay, all good in the Niagara region. The result is some of the most spectacular wine we enjoyed on this trip.

We enjoyed an invigorating hike 2 miles through the property before the end of the Tuscan-style tasting room, where we dove in and tried the Gewurztraminer, with its bouquet of apricot and banana. When you visit, be sure about their Wine Train Excursions, a collaboration between the winery and a local railway to askMuseum.

Chiappone Cellars: Located on a beautiful farm setting near the small town of Newfane, Chiappone Cellars has a long tradition of winemaking for three generations. We thought the whites were the stars here, particularly the Morning Star, a dry but fruity Riesling wine that has won numerous awards. Also check out Moonglow, a clean and smooth Traminette.

Schulze Vineyard and Winery: Just a stone's throw from the shores of Lake Ontario, Schulze Vineyard and Winery Litterlocated on 120 acres of beautiful farmland. If you visit here, you will literally experience the fresh aroma of the grapes and Lake Ontario at the same time.

In its vineyards cover the current planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Catawba, Vidal, Niagara and Riesling. With regard to wine, we were happy to taste some very interesting sparkling wines here, before their very nicely designed Nouveau Cabernet Franc and Vidal Blanc, among others.

Freedom RunWinery: Freedom Run Winery is family owned and are operated with fragrant fruit orchards around the new tasting room. When we visited, are some 11 wines. We thought the Manning Manor Blanc was superb, a blend of Cayuga White and Vidal Blanc, what a pleasant and slightly sweet taste. In addition, we recommend the Cabernet Franc, with big aromas of dark cherry and blackberry. Leonard Oakes Estate Winery: The new winery is the only member outside of the Niagara Wine Trail Niagara County, because it only through the Orleans County line, just 5 minutes from Vizcarra Vineyards. The official opening is the beginning of July, but the wine room was ready to go when we visited a few weeks ago.

Leonard Oakes Estate are all wines produced from grapes grown locally and are fun and easy to drink. TryFrontenac, the wonderfully complex, with hints of dark fruits like blackberry and plum. On the lighter side, for a true taste of the region with White Oakes, a refreshing blend of Chardonnay, Seyval Blanc and Cayuga White.

The Winery at Marjim Manor: Finally, we would like to the shores of Lake Ontario, to take the beautiful grounds and setting of the Winery at Marjim Manor. The estate is located has an interesting history, serving at various times as grainery, a home, and even aMonastery. Some even say the place is haunted!

The wines are very much in advance and kind. Fruit wines usually the days here, all made from large orchard owner. And this is truly a spectacular place to taste wine and linger to it with a commanding view of Lake Ontario. We have some unique wines here with one of our favorite Sunday afternoon at three, a blend of Niagara grapes and peaches. Another was the white one hundred windows, an easy to drink, fruitySelection. Make sure you take your time here ... the setting and the grounds are breathtaking.

We shared this winery visits in a three day period, a visit to a maximum of four per day. The best part about this wine route is the proximity of the wineries ... They are not only an easy drive of each other, but they are very close as well as Buffalo.

The New York leg of this trip was a great combination of rural farm wineries and attractions of the city. In essence, the best of bothWorlds. We hope that this issue sparked your interest in this picturesque and underrated wine-producing area!
